Printed circuit board a.k.a printed wiring board is the most important part of every electronic product. The basic purpose of a PCB is to mechanically Hold all individual components used in design and to electrically interconnect the circuit. In modern day circuits and systems additional needs such as isolation, Noise de-coupling, impedance control etc are also implemented in the PCBs.

The process of development of a PCB starts with requirements identification. From requirements an architecture and high-level design document is made. The architecture and HLD together describes the design, identifies and selects critical important components and implements most theoretical calculations needed for design. These includes power calculation, thermal analysis, decoupling, timing analysis, pre-SI analysis etc. The next stage is schematics designalso known as logical design. The schematics is a logical/readable representation of intended design. This is basically a detailed diagram showing all the devices and components used in design and describing how they are interconnected. The PCB design of Board is then done as per schematics design and other physical requirements such as position of connectors, size and shape of board etc.

The output files from PCB design and schematics which are the gerber files and BOM (Bill of Materials) are the ones used to manufacture (PCB Fabrication) and assemble the boards.
